Guilt and Hot Showers

Hot showers - one of my favorite things. And something that I feel guilty about. For one thing, long hot showers show up on the power bill that I share with my room mates. Which means that we are using electricity to heat the water. In our town, electricity does not come from a sustainable source, so, every time I shower, I am using up resources. But, where do I draw the line between my comfort and the resources used to uphold my expected comfort level... Solution: Try to take shorter showers with cooler water. Cold water is good for assuaging guilt.

Hi, this is Maia. I'm a college student and, like most students, I've become concerned with the fact that we, as Americans are consuming way beyond a level that is sustainable. I don't want to suggest how to solve that or stand up on some pedestal and lecture people about how They need to act. What I want to do with this blog is chronicle my daily observations and attempts at moving my own life toward self sufficiency and sustainability.
